The Mission
Writing with Light
Photography means “writing with light.” That is exactly what Lightwriterz is about.
Lightwriterz is the photography club and creative collective where the camera work keeps going beyond any single class. It is a place to keep learning the craft, build a real body of work, and create alongside other photographers, from the first frame to the final edit.
Members dig into lighting, composition, editing, and personal projects, then share what they make. If you already love making images, or you just want to learn how, there is a place for you here.

How many are true photographs?
The Lightwriterz Creed
Pics are taken. Photographs are made.
A Sea of Pics
Flooded with images, starving for photographsThe world makes billions of pictures a day. Phones fire them off by the thousand, and most are gone by nightfall. We are drowning in pics and starving for photographs.
A pic just happens. A photograph is made. You read the light, wait for the moment, choose the frame, and give it meaning. That choice is the whole art, and it is what I teach: how to capture light on purpose and turn it into something that lasts.
Light Writerz exists to pull students out of the endless scroll and hand them that power. We slow down. We learn to see. And we learn that one true photograph can outlive a million forgotten pics, because it carries a point of view only one person in the world could give it.
This is bigger than a club. It is a way of seeing that changes how a young person moves through the world: more awake, more intentional, more their own. That is the legacy, and it can be life changing, built one student and one real photograph at a time.
A Kind of Superpower
See what others walk right pastLearning to see through a photographer’s eyes is close to a superpower. You start to appreciate the world in greater depth: the light, the gesture, the small nuance that everyone else walks right past, heads down, scrolling a screen, never knowing it was there. That way of seeing is the gift I want every student to carry long after the class ends.
And I never ask them for perfection. I ask for something harder and more honest:
I do not expect perfection. I expect intention.
Intention is the ingredient that turns an image into a photograph. When every choice has a reason behind it, the picture becomes a true photograph. That is the standard I hold my students to, and the one I hold myself to.
Give a Camera New Life
The gear you have outgrown can start someone’s whole storyProfessionals upgrade constantly. The old camera gets sold for next to nothing, traded in for pennies, or left to gather dust in a closet.
It could be in the hands of a young Light Writer instead: learning to see, framing a first real photograph, discovering the thing that turns into a life. A camera you have moved past can be the exact one that starts someone else’s. If it still powers on and makes a frame, a student can learn on it.
Donate a working camera and give it a second life, and a student a first chance.
- DSLR or mirrorless bodies, any brand
- Compact and pocket cameras
- 35mm film cameras in working order
- Lenses, memory cards, and chargers
- Tripods, bags, and clean working gear
- Anything that still powers on and makes a frame
Keep the Camera Going
Camera donations run through Light Writerz, the photography club and creative collective I founded at Pioneer Valley High School. Every camera goes straight into a student’s hands.
